Yevgeni Lazarev (1937–2016) was a legendary Russian-American actor and director whose career spanned over five decades, bridging the worlds of classical Soviet theater and major Hollywood blockbusters. A graduate of the Moscow Art Theatre School, he became a "People's Artist of Russia" and held a prestigious career as both a leading stage actor and a professor at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. In the West, he became a quintessential choice for portraying high-ranking Eastern European officials and patriarchs, most notably appearing as Anton Vanko in Marvel's Iron Man 2 (2010)—the father of the film's antagonist, Ivan Vanko. His extensive filmography includes roles in The Saint, The Sum of All Fears, and Lord of War, as well as recurring appearances in hit series like 24, Alias, and The West Wing. Lazarev passed away in 2016 at the age of 79, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most respected Russian actors to have successfully transitioned to the international stage.
