The Rat King is an optional boss that can be found roaming the maze of floor 1. Its approach can be detected by the sound it makes, allowing the player to avoid it if they remain alert. When slain, it drops the Rusty Crown, which when equipped, pacifies all rat enemies and allows them to be spoken to. This crown designates the king of the rats. The Rat King was once Frederic's friend Fabrice, to whom he showed his painting of the evening sky a few nights before the arrival of the Visitor, while they were having coffee together. Fabrice made a horrible noise and ran out the door, howling mad.
