Ernest is a beggar who may arrive as a random door encounter when the player is at home, asking for food. He starts at level ?, and his class is listed as Beggar. Ernest starts equipped with ?. Ernest is wary and will not enter the apartment at first. After he has come by and received food twice, he can be recruited on the third visit. He was once a roadie for a traveling band, and learned to play the guitar there. He used to have a pet rat named Charlie. Ernest resides in a shelter in the Floor 1 labyrinth (not yet findable in-game) alongside Colonel Squeakums, a rat mutant who has taken a liking to him.
