Melinda "Mel" Jones is a fictional character from the Neil Gaiman fantasy horror children's story Coraline and its 2009 film adaption. She is the overly-workaholic, inattentive, and negligent mother of the title character, Coraline Jones.
Mel and her husband, Charlie spend most of their time working at home on the computer of an undisclosed job, leaving their daughter Coraline to fend for herself most of the time despite the fact that she loves her daughter dearly.
