Derrick Thompson (born on August, the 10th 1966), sometimes known as Officer Thompson, is Jake's kind-hearted but strict father and also one of the supporting characters in the Chargeshock Thompson & the Justice Avengers series created by Man of Action.
Appearance
He is a tall, lean middle aged man with black to grayish black hair, dark blue eyes and wears black jeans, and a white polo shirt. When he's at work, he wears his usual police gear as work attire.
Personality
As the Officer of the NYPD, Derrick is described as a serious, level headed individual and by the book individual. He carries himself with a lot of confidence and is also self assured in what he is doing for New York and for his kids. Like his son, he is also charismatic, but unlike Jake, more stoic than laid back. Although he is usually serious, and has high expectations of Jake, he cares deeply for his family and can be usually laid back. He is known for setting Jake's schedule, which includes several extracurricular activities such as wind sprints, Karate and guitar practice. He is also a perfectionist sometimes, which can be shown that he grounded Jake the 2 times he missed a few of his extracurriculars. According to Keith and Kyle, this makes him look like a total control freak. In the end, he decides to loosen his grip and take it easy.
Not much is known about his past, but it has been hinted many times that he used to be a Plumber and that his mentor is Max Tennyson. And like Jake, he was just as confident, charismatic, snarky, daring and witty. Nobody knew, except for his own kids. It is told that he and Jake's mother, Krolia have met back when he found her and saved her from the wreckage of her ship when she crash landed on Earth after trying to prevent the Galra from reporting the location of the Blue Lion to Zarkon. Eventually they fell in love and some years later, they got married. After she left back when Jake was 5, he became very involved in his son's life, which explains his occasional overprotectiveness and a need to compensate after his wife left. He knows she only did it to protect him and their kids, but sometimes deep inside, he still misses her, even when he doesn't show it and tries not to think about it.
As we all know he is the officer of the NYPD, Derrick has a good eye for detail, which explains his suspicions about his son always coming home late or the times he missed some of his extracurriculars. He had a gut feeling about Jake being a Justice Avenger, but didn't want to pressure him and wanted to wait for him to tell him when he's ready. He is also shown to be really perceptive of how the girl of Jake's dreams, Sally Gómez acts around him and treats him. So when the 2 started dating, he approved of Sally, as Jake and her reminded him of him and Krolia back when they met and back when they started dating.
Powers and Abilities
Abilities
Gunmanship: Derrick is skilled in using a variety of Plumber tools and weaponry. He also has experience with some alien tech, such as Transporter Discs.
Driving Proficiency: Derrick is proficient at driving. For example, when being chased by the Mecha-Tarantulas, he was able to repeatedly swerve the Police car out of the way to avoid their lasers.
Piloting: Before joining the Plumbers, Derrick was a United States Air Force and Galaxy Garrison pilot. As such, he was an expert at flying an F-104 Starfighter, which included dogfighting, as he was able to pursue and shoot down an alien spacecraft; and he can sufficiently pilot both helicopters and Earth spaceships. He has also been shown to pilot alien spacecraft proficiently, such as the IGF-Atlas prototype ship and the Skipper.
Street Fighting Proficiency: Derrick is a skilled street fighter and has been shown to hold his own against beings with powers. He is also a seasoned strategist; skilled at using the objects in his environment to gain an advantage in a fight.
Enhanced Strength: Derrick has enhanced strength. For example, he can swing a metal pole attached to concrete and lift a big alien fish.
Leadership: Back in his younger days, Derrick was able to lead both the Plumbers' Team Alpha and nowadays train his sons without flaw.
Enhanced Agility: Derrick has proven to be at the peak of human agility, able to perform amazing feats such as leaping high into the air in his battle against Electro Monster when he wanted to avenge Jake, as he thought he died when he got dropped by Electro Monster in the lava.
Detective Skills: As a cop, Derrick is a master detective, and bases his method on logic. With these skills, he has been able to deduce the identities of all of the Justice Avengers at one point, but none of them knew about it. While spying on Deadpool, he read the latter's micro-expressions to deduce he was lying about Agent MacGuffin's existence, as he's the one who stole the crypted documents of the the secret identities of the Justice Avengers, even if he got those stolen from him from Taskmaster.
Martial Arts Proficiency: Being trained in Aikido, Karate, Judo and Jujutsu back in his younger days as a Plumber, Derrick's specialty lies in aggressive close combat with martial arts.
Multilingualism: Derrick is fluent in 8 languages. He speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, Japanese and Chinese. When disguised as Oliver O'Neil, he can speak with a convincing Scottish accent.
Trivia
At first, he looked like he was struggling with technology, but as far as the eye can see, he is really good with a lot of types of tech.
His wife, Krolia originally wanted to name their first son Yurak, but he suggested Keith instead. The same happened when she originally suggested Throk for their second son. But he suggested Jake instead.
