Alan Scott was the first Green Lantern, despite not being part of the Troop. He used the Star Heart as a member of the Justice Society of America. Unlike others that have the name of "Green Lantern", Alan Scott's power does not come from the Guardians of the Universe, but from the Star Heart, a magical entity, once trapped by the Guardians. The Star Heart found its way to Earth, where in 1939, in the form of a flashlight, he saved Alan from a wrecked train. In the mental direction of the Lantern, Alan formed a ring that allowed him to take advantage of the great power of the Star Heart
