Robert Gordon Duffey (born April 9, 1974 in Raleigh, North Carolina) is an American actor. He was born in Raleigh, North Carolina and he grew up in Texas where he studied and performed in theater. He portrayed the role of Scooter McNutty on the children's television series Barney & Friends. Outside of his role of Scooter McNutty, Duffey is also known for his role as Brian, the Chotchkie's waiter in the 1999 comedy Office Space.[1] Among his other projects, he appeared in a recurring role in 2001 in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.[2] Duffey received a call asking if he had ever done puppeteering, to which he admitted he had not, joking that he could put a sock on his hand and make a voice. Despite his lack of formal puppeteering experience, he was invited to audition and was paired with Brice Armstrong for the tryout. Their humorous, improvisational interactions during the audition led producers to select both of them for their roles of Scooter McNutty and Miss Etta Kette respectively, before they even read the script lines. Afterward, Duffey and Armstrong attended a Jim Henson puppet school to learn the necessary skills for their characters. For Scooter’s voice, Duffey came up with a distinctive nasally voice after being shown a photo of the character, which the producers loved immediately. He was offered the role soon after the audition.
