Bertha Marilla Blythe is the youngest child of Anne Blythe (née Shirley) and Gilbert Blythe and main protagonist/title character of L. M. Montgomery's Rilla of Ingleside, in which her rather frivolous life turns upside down when World War I comes along, drags her brothers and friends to the front, as she organizes the local Junior Red Cross and finds herself raising a war baby she carried home in a soup tureen. Used to speak with a lisp as a child, it still comes up sometimes when she's nervous.
