Biography

Carmen Corral is a first-generation, Mexican-American actress, dancer and writer from Chicago. Carmen grew up in an artistic family- her father was a welder who played Mexican music on the side with his brothers and her mother was a cleaning lady who took poetry classes at night. An ulcer and hundreds of sleepless nights later, Carmen graduated second in her class and attended UCLA or as her mother called it, "Ook-lah" to study acting on a full scholarship. Upon graduating from UCLA, she starred in various TV and film roles, she is most well-known for her role as Ben Mckenzie's girlfriend on Southland (TNT) for which she was featured in Latina Magazine. Feeling passionate about telling stories that explore her community and culture and feeling disenchanted by the roles for Latinas, Carmen turned to her love for writing to create empowering and authentic Latina roles. She wrote and directed a web series for Flama (a Latino, millennial, YouTube platform owned by Univision) called BFFs, a comedy that depicts the secret lives of 20-something Latina roommates. She then worked as an assistant to director/ producer, Seth Gordon helping him develop TV and film projects. Carmen is a NHMC Writing Fellow, a three time finalist for the Disney General Entertainment Content Writing program, and a finalist for Tanya Saracho's Ojalá Ignition Lab. Carmen worked on three seasons of the ABC comedy, Home Economics (the first two seasons as Writer's Assistant and the third season as Showrunner's Assistant). Carmen recently wrapped as a staff writer on the NBC comedy, Lopez vs. Lopez. When she's not wearing her writer's hat, Carmen puts on her dancing shoes. She's a pro salsa dancer and the occasional choreographer.
