Fisk was eventually recruited by mob boss Don Rigoletto as a bodyguard, and eventually became Rigoletto's right-hand man. He also became well-versed in political science, and used his strength, intellect, and leadership skills to build a criminal empire. Fisk's first story arc appeared in Amazing Spider-Man issue 50, where he was a wealthy businessman who donated to charity but was secretly waiting to take over the criminal underworld
