Joel McLane is Evelyn’s ex-boyfriend, and prime suspect for the identity of Black Magic in the multiverse. Joel is a tall and dark figure, has had issues with drugs and alcohol in the past and was abusive to Evelyn when they were together. He had a grudge on her ever since, so after the discovery of Black Magic killing Evelyn in each universe, he was prime suspect. This was until Max stumbled across Joel’s death when Evelyn died in one universe, to which he was the unlikely suspect. It was shortly after Evelyn’s death in that universe that Black Magic revealed herself to him and killed him instantly, shocking Max in the process. Joel dies in the final conflict trying to stop Black Magic.
