Ben Ferris is a 31-year-old man who was sentenced to 50 years in prison for assault, murder and firearms trafficking. Until one day, Ultratech learned of this and offered him a chance to be used as a guinea pig in scientific experiments in exchange for three years of probation and Ben accepted the proposal, but the experiment went wrong, and combined the flames of the accident with the Ben's body and chemicals ended up resulting in a flaming being that walks. Seeing his potential, they put him in the tournament to be tested promising to reverse the experiments on him, Ben accepts and changes his name to Cinder and enters the competition to get his body back to normal and have his freedom.
