Joe Craven, Billy's father, is a ghost music teacher, who in his time was responsible for opening the portal between the human and monster worlds, with his music and celebrating Halloween. However, he also realized that his music also attracted demons, therefore it was decided to sign an agreement where Halloween would not be celebrated in Sourville and that Joseph would remain as guardian of that portal until his death, but now it is his duty to help his son by opening the portal to send the monsters to scare away the demons.
