Otto was born in Germany, but learned English on a foreign exchange program to the United Kingdom. Some of his English was taught through reading classic novels. When he came back to Germany, he had hopes to be a writer. He met Lana, a tourist, and was in love with her nearly instantly. She stayed in Germany for a while as the two developed a relationship, but when she told him her hopes to continue her travels, he decided to go with her. The two ended up settling in Spain. There they met a man named Romain- he interested the couple enough that an encounter occurred, where they learned of his vampirism. Otto found it inspirational for his writing.
