The Challengers of the Fantastic were joined on a mission by roboticist and researcher Duncan Masters. He discovered the Liquid Light, a clay artifact that is filled with golden fluid. When Duncan drank the Liquid Light, he changed into a diminutive man with a large head. The Liquid Light slowly drove Duncan insane as he learned that he could use the clay from the relic to create dolls of people to use as a form of control after he had died. Taking on the identity of the villainous Multi-Master, he devised a plan to destroy the Challengers, even if it meant endangering his own daughter June Masters.
