Formerly, Sinestro served to the Starbrand Corps. Sinestro was one of the Corps members that Uatu the Guardian decided to kill. Uatu was unaware that Sinestro had survived the attempted murder. When he became a villain and changed his identity to Mandarinestro, he plotted to collect alien rings so that he would be strong enough to exact revenge on Uatu and anybody associated to him.
