As a teenager, Erik Magnus—the fusion of Magneto and Doc Magnus—became aware of his metamutant powers, which made his brother Will Magnus hate him. Erik adopted Magneto's persona after creating the Brotherhood of Mutants, a group of other mutants with superhuman abilities. Magneto was the only Brotherhood member not killed by Will's Sentinel robots, ending the conflict between the brothers. Erik used his extraordinary magnetic power to create the Magnetic Men, robots designed to fight for the mutant cause and against the Sentinels, in their honor. Magneto also created the Cerebro supercomputer to locate mutants and aid them. Mister X, the captain of the JLX, and Magneto are deadly rivals.
