Nathan Vaughn, the fusion of Captain Atom and Quasar, served as a Captain in the US Army during the Vietnam War.He was in charge of maintaining security at a top-secret government lab where experts were studying quantum field bands.Wearing the bands, Nathan used the alien technology to destroy the A.I.M. Agenda robots that broke into the lab. But he was unable to remove the bands. Nathan was given the Captain Quantum name and outfit. During a mission, his bands overloaded, throwing him 20 years into the future and turning his flesh into alien metal. Captain Quantum is struggling to understand his situation as an outsider in a strange period while also attempting to defend his nation.
