Combining Beast and Beast Boy, Hank Logan, along with his parents, was a teenager when he fell ill with a rare disease while on an African safari. Hank had a string of frightening changes while his parents were caring for him in his fever dreams. Once the virus was treated with the antidote, he turned into a Beastling. Despite his exterior, Beastling was accepted into the X-Patrol since he could not lead a Metamutant life and must continue to guard New York City. Shatterstarfire was confused because he had been flirting with her quite a bit back when the X-Patrol was first formed. The importance of Beastling's position in the team soon dawned on him.
