Seleucus, son of Antiochus, was one of Alexander's companions and so part of an aristocratic macedonian family. He served during his campaign in Asia, and was appointed, after the return in Babylon, satrap of that region. After Alexander's death he served as general for Perdiccas, but betrayed him and sided with Ptolemy against Antigonus, new strategos of Asia. After the battle of Gaza (312) he gained all the provinces east of the Euphrates, and after Ipsus (301) Sirya and part of Asia Minor. He died in 281 killed by Ptolemy Ceraunos, but his successors ruled Syria and other regions until 64 BC.
