Perdiccas was one of the companions of Alexander. He was also one of the somatophilakoi (body guards) and so he was a very close friend to the king. After the death of Alexander he received, when the king was agonizing, the royal sigil, and so the role to be the regent of the empire until Alexander's son turned 18 and for Arrhydaeus (Alexander's simple minded step-brother). He tried also to marry Cleopatra, Alexander's sister to consolidate his position, but was killed by his generals in Egypt while campaigning against the rebel Ptolemy.
