Clitus was one of the veteran commanders of the companion cavalry of Alexander (the etairoi), he also served under his father Philip. Clitus saved Alexander's life at the battle of River Granicus, cutting the arm of an enemy ready to slain the young king. During a feast in Maracanda (Uzbekistan) , both him and Alexander were drunk, and after an harsh debate, the king punched him with his spear.
