Cassander was the son of the great general Antipater, regent in Macedon during Alexander's campaigns. Although he had the same age of the king and many of his generals, he didn't took part to the expedition. He was sent by his father to Babylon in 323 BC slightly before the death of the king. After his father's death he didn't inherited his position, and so he clashed with Poliperchon, an old general trusted by his father. He also worked to cancel the Argead dynasty, killing in order: Olympias, Roxane, Alexander IV and Heracles son of Barsine. He eventually became king of Macedon in 305 and retained the position until 297, when he died.
