Jon Favreau’s expansive crossover of the 1933 classic follows director Milo James Thatch (Michael J. Fox) and his crew on a journey from New Watter City to the ominous Smash Island to film a new movie. Accompanying him are playwright Jim Hawkins (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and actress Belle (Paige O’Hara), who is whisked away by the monstrous green man, The Hulk, after they reach the island. The crew encounters monsters and other creatures as they race to rescue Belle, while the actress forms a bond with her simian captor.
