Ten years after the last Griswold adventure, Rusty Griswold is determined to give his children the perfect Christmas—the kind of holiday he remembers from his own childhood. With his wife Debbie and sister Audrey, he sets out to create the ultimate festive experience: the biggest tree, the brightest lights, and a week full of holiday traditions. But perfect plans rarely survive reality. Rusty’s obsession with perfection clashes with modern life: his older son James brings his wife and young child, his younger son Kevin is a tech-obsessed chaos generator, and his youngest, Charlie, just wants to enjoy the magic without all the rules. Meanwhile, Audrey navigates motherhood and the challenges of her teenage daughter Luna, who struggles with insecurities under the shadow of her overachieving father, Stone Crandall. Adding to the holiday mayhem is Rocky Johnson, Eddie’s grown-up son. Much like Eddie in the original films, Rocky is well-meaning but disastrously clumsy, driving Rusty to the brink as he tries to maintain order. The Griswolds’ extended family—including Clark and Ellen, Debbie’s parents and sibling, and Eddie and Catherine—arrive only for the Christmas dinner, providing nostalgia, jokes, and minor conflicts without stealing the spotlight from the new generation. Their presence fuels comedy, reminders of past disasters, and heartfelt moments during the big family meal, but the story remains centered on Rusty, Debbie, and Audrey. Between exploding lights, collapsing decorations, drones gone haywire, and the inevitable chaos of trying to orchestrate the perfect holiday, Rusty learns that the best Christmases aren’t planned—they’re lived. The film culminates in a chaotic, hilarious, and heartwarming dinner where every member of the extended Griswold family finds their place, and Rusty finally realizes that love, laughter, and shared memories are far more important than perfection.
