Ronin is the main hero in the 1983-1984 limited comic book series Ronin. He is created by Frank Miller, who is also credited for writing Daredevil, creating the Marvel hero Elektra, creating the Sin City series, and creating Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Year One. The title character doesn't have a name and he is simply called Ronin. The name Ronin means a samurai with no master or lord.
In feudal Japan, a nameless samurai and his Master Ozaki are outside a castle where they stumble upon henchmen who work for a demon master named Agat. After fighting off the henchmen, Ozaki shows the samurai his special sword that sucks up blood. During a night at Ozaki's castle, Ozaki is killed by the demon Agat, who is in disguise as a geisha. The samurai, now a ronin, swears to avenge the death of Ozaki and lives in the Japanese country side for years. A couple years later, the Ronin meets Agat at his castle and the two fight. The Ronin grabs the stolen sword and commits suicide along with Agat. But Agat curses his and the Ronin's spirit inside the sword and won't get out until someone else uses the sword.
