Brittles is an aging U.S. Cavalry officer who is less than a week away from retiring from the Army. He is a Civil War veteran and a man who lost his wife and daughters in 1867 due to disease. After a failed campaign to stop a brewing war between the men at Fort Starke and the Cheyenne, it is up to Nathan to come up with a daring plan to prevent further bloodshed and a new opportunity for him in the Army.
