Joel is a member of the tooth family who live in Apartment 32. He is found in the bathroom brushing his teeth, and can be recruited as a companion if the player can stabilize him. His class is listed as Tooth Child, and he starts out at level 2. He is 8 years old. Clint and Madison are his parents, and his siblings are Benjamin and a baby sister. As a party member, Joel's weapon slot is taken up by his teddy bear Fuzzy, which cannot be unequipped (even after it is nominally destroyed by the rat baby during their interactions). He attacks by biting, dealing unarmed damage. He also has a unique move, Teething, in place of guarding, which deals damage to himself and applies Teeth, strengthening his attacks for three turns. When attacking an enemy at low health, he will devour them - dealing extra damage to finish them off, and gaining a small amount of max HP (greater for stronger enemies). To be recruited, Joel must be given his teddy bear when he becomes hostile to pacify him, his mother in the master bedroom must be interacted with, and his disposition toward the player must be at a certain level (affected by dialogue options). The easiest way to ensure you can recruit Joel, without having to hug him and take damage, is to introduce yourself as a neighbor and avoid saying anything upsetting about his father.
