Dr. Ivo Robotnik, also referred to as "Eggman", is the main antagonist of the Sonic the Hedgehog film series, serving as the main antagonist of Sonic the Hedgehog and will return in some capacity in its upcoming sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2. He is the film's adaptation of Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik from the video games. He is a brilliant yet unstable and narcissistic roboticist who was hired by the U.S. government to capture Sonic the Hedgehog; however, as time went on, it soon became clear that Robotnik actually planned to take Sonic's powers for himself in order to conquer the world. Henceforth, he is Sonic the Hedgehog's arch-nemesis - just like in other adaptions.
