Barbie is a fashion doll created by American businesswoman Ruth Handler, manufactured by American toy and entertainment company Mattel and introduced on March 9, 1959. The toy was based on the German Bild Lilli doll which Handler had purchased while in Europe.
She is also a major character in Disney•Pixar's 2010 animated film, Toy Story 3. She is a genuine doll toy line made by the company Mattel. Barbie did not appear in the first Toy Story film because Mattel did not authorize her use, as they feared the film would not be successful. However, after the success of the first movie (and Pixar in general), multiple Barbie dolls had small roles in Toy Story 2, before the debut of the franchise's definitive iteration in the second sequel.
