After a long journey through Hyperspace with a damaged engine, Mace Windu and Damian Rand crash-land on the planet Haruun Kal, where Mace finds his brother, Kar Vastor, and the rest of the people of Haruun Kal in the jungle. From there, Windu takes up refuge as a well-respected guest, while Damian tries to repair his ship and heal Mace's injuries.
