Right after passing the Matrix of Leadership to Ironhide, he became more laid-back, less elegant, and even let himself go. But even so, he acts as a mentor to his Autobot friends, especially Ironhide, although he can have a crude and corny sense of humor. His current role in the band is the rhythm guitarist and his signature instrument is the double-neck guitar. He was the lead vocalist before Ironhide took the Matrix of Leadership.
