A middle-aged man that has a warm, authoritative southern drawl. Described as looking like a younger Jeff Bridges with a less impressive goatee, August is one of the few people in the story that Murray seems to trust outright along with Travis, Holly, and Janine. Acting as the ‘employer’ to the step-siblings, August is the one who sets them on the journey to find the bizarre, skeletal creature that is responsible for a series of missing pet cases in the area. He even offers to pay out of his own pocket since his daughter has finished school. He’s not around long, but he serves his role in the story that sets Murray and Travis on a quest that will change their lives forever.
