Frank Castle is a soldier fighting for his country and family in Afghanistan, when terrorist's murder his friends and allies during a surprise attack, Castle murders them all, earning his iconic nickname. He kills criminals in Hell's Kitchen when he is attacked by Elektra, who has been sent by Kingpin. They try assassinated each other to no avail. Elektra realizes she does not not like Kingpin, and the two face him, retreating to fight another day.
