The Maxx, a homeless man gifted with superhuman powers from a brush with an alternate world known as The Outback befriends a self-described "freelance social worker" named Julie Winters who also exists in the Outback as the all-powerful Leopard Queen. Meanwhile, the mysterious villain Mr. Gone seeks to manipulate the Outback, as well as Maxx and Julie to his own unsavoury ends.
