One of the many unrealized projects of visionary auteur Tim Burton was the Gothic western, The Hawkline Monster, which would've seen him directing from a screenplay penned by frequent collaborator Jonathan Gems, adapted from the novel of the same name by Richard Brautigan. The story tells of two gunslingers — to have been played by Clint Eastwood and Jack Nicholson — who are hired by a fifteen-year-old girl to kill a monster that lives underneath the basement in the home of Miss Hawkline. No doubt many of Burton's frequent collaborators would've also joined in, including score composer Danny Elfman, costume designer Colleen Atwood, film editor Chris Lebenzon, production designer Bo Welch, cinematographer Stefan Czapsky, executive producer Larry Franco, and producer Denise Di Novi. However, Eastwood eventually left the project, which subsequently led to Nicholson and Burton leaving alongside him. Follow me and ponder the question, "What if...?" Music: "Mole Hunt" – Danny Elfman (Mission: Impossible)
