He is also secretly in love with Prince Earric eventhough he knows that this love is unrequited. Because Kaspar wants to hurt Earric he helps Maude and Lyra. He doesn't like Maude because he thinks of her as a bratty and rich girl and also because he's jealous of her because Earric likes her so much.
