Tales of Elseworlds (Book One, Chapter One)
In an alternate future, Batman has not been seen for twenty years as Bruce Wayne gave up the mantle and retired following the apparent death of the third Robin, Tim Drake, at the hands of the Joker, sending Bruce to the edge, causing him to break his code and kill Joker. Years later, in the 2040s, a new breed of criminal ravages Gotham City in the form of a gang called the Mutants, forcing a now 55-year old Bruce back into the cape and cowl, but his return may be challenging as he is pitted against the Gotham City Police and the US government. With help from his trusted butler Alfred, and the new Robin Carrie Kelley, Batman sets out to protect the city he abandoned.
