An Oral History
Three years ago, in 2019, Yara Khoury was pronounced dead at 70. As a part of an oral history project, supported by NYU’s Humanities Department, as well their Arab and Islamic Studies Department, I have interviewed Khoury’s musical contemporaries, bandmates, friends, and family to map her prolific life. Khoury’s own testimonies are excerpts from the documentary ‘The Moon’s Neighbour’, in which she was interviewed by Suzanne Falk. Rest in peace, Yara. May you be remembered not only for your music, but your courage, love and resistance.
