  • castingsinmyblood If I'm being completely honest, neither of these actors really fit with how Lex Luthor looks in birthright. In all the panels Lex appears in, he's always shorter than Superman. Not only that, Birthright Lex is closer to Superman's age. I don't know if these guys are close enough to Henry Cavill's mid to late 30s look. Either way, rereading the source material might behoove this story.

    • castingsinmyblood   @felipedejesus While your argument is sound, I can't really get behind it. The more I find out about real life Lex Luthors, the more I realize that the hardwork boasts are just that: boasts. Maybe people will call me, god fobid, "grimdark" for saying that I prefer realism in comics, but every time I think about Lex Luthor, I think about how in Azzarello's LLMoS (an amazing read, btw) Lex never lets anyone get a word in edgewise. I think about how All-Star Superman's Lex wasted his time being as powerful as Superman blowing stuff up. I remember how the Lex Luthor of Smallville went through 10 seasons of heartache, death, and betrayals and still became a villain. I wish you all the luck in the world and I hope the rest of your cast is to your satisfaction, but I can't see Lex Luthor as a hero. Because he chose rule in hell rather than serve in heaven.

    • castingsinmyblood   @felipedejesus Again, a sound argument. My personal opinions, though, is that I really like to play up Lex's pettiness and bitterness. I actually liked Jesse Eisenberg's Luthor, and I feel that Clancy Brown's strongest performances as Lex were in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. I just like the idea of Lex being the most intelligent guy in the room, but he's also a jerk, contrasting him with Superman's simpler but more emotionally mature character

    • felipedejesus   @castingsinmyblood I hear you. However, I don't imagine it as a shot-per-shot adaptation of Birthright. More like using Waid's origin as the basis, but with elements from Geoff John's origin as well. As for Luthor, I want to cast a actor with a "heroic appearance" because I imagine him being more like the morally ambiguous Luthor from Azzarello's "Lex Luthor: Man of Steel" rather than just the power hungry narcisist from Birthright. Also I like the idead that Luthor is both the mental and physical peak of what a human can achieve. That scene from "All Star Superman" where he asks Kent to feel his muscles, boasting about hardwork vs "solar-powered muscles" always stuck with me.
