The first entry in a 1990s style DCU. Here we see a retelling of Clark's origin, his first few years as The Man of Steel in a more grounded, yet faithful to the character style than its 1970s/80s counterpart. This will be the springboard to which the DCU jumps off of and will also see Lex Luthor become the man which we know today. During Superman's first year as the caped crusader, Luthor is creating a program through LexCorp that allows for US Military service members to volunteer to be next in line for a new, state of the art, robotic suit, powered by kryptonite. John Corben is first to sign up and in his first battle with Superman, a bullet shot at Supes by Corben, bounces off and hits the suit in such a way that sets off a chain reaction, almost killing Corben. Superman then flies his mangled body and suit to the nearest hospital, where Luthor intercepts him, claiming that he (Luthor) will take it from here. Through this first trial run, Luthor is able to save Corben with his Kryptonite now operating as his heart, and also make a new suit specifically for Luthor that is able to team up with the newly formed Metallo.
