Since 1938, Superman inspires people to not give up in the face of adversity; He helps people find their inner strength. Kal-el is also an undocumented outer space alien; he *looks* human, but he is not. Superman is also an orphan in the broadest sense; the only survivor of an advanced race of humanoid beings. Superman has always fought for truth, justice for all - especially the weak and oppressed... and for "the American way" = which I define as giving every person an equal opportunity to be who they were meant to "become" in life.
