He bullies Peter, but becoming Spider-Man helps him gain enough self-confidence to stand up to Flash and manage to return the humiliation, turning what was a bullying relationship into a school rivalry. He sometimes acts as comic relief as he watches how Peter, his friends, or some superhero friend of Peter's manage to humiliate him.
