After escaping from prison and wanting revenge against Spiderman, Doctor Octopus organized a group of other arachnid villains: Electro, Kraven, Mysterio, Sandman and Vulture; thus creating the Sinister Sextet. Octavius promised an infallible plan, but what he did was arrange for the kidnapping of Betty Brant and May Parker, which caused Spider-Man to meet him. The six villains agreed to attack the hero one by one, which led to their defeat.
