Norman was never the same after the death of his son Harry in the lab accident. He became a recluse hiding himself away and leaving Oscorp in the capable hands of his two trusted scientists Otto Octavius and Curt Connors. He is alone in his secret lab when he is found by Peter who asks about the spider. Norman shows that the spider was no experiment and it was random chance that it even got mutated and bit Peter. He takes pity on the lost boy and he starts helping Peter learn about his powers and the two start bonding finding they are more similar than they think. When the serial killer Screwball attempts to assassinate him he is rescued by Peter, they begin investigating the Screwball case.
