Naming children after their predecessor is often symbolic of the parents passing down their hopes, dreams, and legacy to their progeny (regardless of the child's own wishes). It is also a convenient way — for both the parent and the writer — to quickly establish familial connection without having to look too far for a suitable name. And if the family's legacy stretches back to several generations prior (which is typical for royal families, noble houses, or The Clan), it is not uncommon to name the child after one of their grandparents or a more distant Famous Ancestor.
