Knuckles is a stern guardian of The Chaos Emerald and though he values his childhood friendship with Sally he refuses her request for aid since his father ordered him to never leave The Emerald unguarded and his father holds a grudge with Nigel since he didn’t answer The Echidnas call for aid when an inter tribal conflict occurred. He is highly skeptical of Sonic when he meets him and the two don’t start on the best of terms. But when Sonic fights for him and his people when the humans attack Angel Island, he agrees to help Sonic. Sadly the Master Emerald is taken by the newest agent of The Overworlders, Rogue The Bat for a special weapon that Grand Admiral Kintober has been building.
