Merlina, Merlin's granddaughter, has transported Sonic from wherever he came from to her reality where the friends Sonic knows are different. Merlina has Sonic collect swords from the knights Gawain, Percival, Galahad and Lancelot so he can retrieve the Scabbard of Excalibur from the corrupted King Arthur, the Black Knight, so there can be piece in Camelot. And with the help of the talking sword Caliburn, he will accomplish this task. But what Sonic doesn't know . . . is that he's being manipulated into stealing the Scabbard for Merlina so she can become the Dark Queen and bring chaos to the land. Will Sonic defeat Merlina or will him and Camelot be lost in darkness forever?
