Will Halloway and Jim Nightshade were a couple of 13 year old boys who stumble upon a very nightmarish carnival run by Mr. Dark, a very sinister owner of the Carnival by taking away lives from the people and with Will's father, Charles Halloway, having a phobia of growing old.
