Hard Shell is one of the many children of the Testudisland, a massive, flying turtle that carries an entire continent on its back. Many generations have lived on the Tesudisland over the years, but only its children have had the privilege to directly communicate with it and share in its power. And when evildoers attempted to corrupt the Testudisland and use its might for evil, Hard Shell fought back against the corruption and saved its parent, earning it a place as a Sensei.
